The SCCC Languages Department is responsible for the organisation and implementation of the Japanese program throughout the College and across all campuses. The Japanese Program aims to develop an international perspective and understanding in our students in an attempt to prepare them for an ever changing and exceedingly globalised world.

With globalisation occurring at a faster rate than ever before, it is critical to the continuing and future success of your child that they be Asia literate. The Japanese program helps students to develop critical thinking, analysis and problem solving skills. It also contributes to social interaction through better communication and understanding.

Students are offered the opportunity to commence their study of Japanese in Year 6 under the instruction and guidance of qualified and highly experienced teachers and native teaching assistants. They may continue their study until they complete their senior schooling in Year 12.

The Japanese program aims to provide students with the motivation and means to access learning of the Japanese language and culture in a variety of ways:

• An interactive website has been created to allow students access to all content of the program after-hours to ensure students who miss a lesson for any reason can easily catch up or revise at home.
• An International Affiliate School Program, providing for student exchanges and other contacts as part of our aim to extend the cultural framework of student learning.
• A two-week study tour of Japan held during the school holidays (every two years) to immerse senior school students in the remarkable Japanese culture, and put into practical use the language they've learned so much about. • A dedicated YouTube Channel featuring digital tutorials ("DigiTutes") on all lesson content allowing students the freedom and flexibility to learn anywhere and at any time. Students can also extend themselves by viewing tutorials on things they may not have covered in class but are still interested to learn.
