Year 9 student Cameron Powers has achieved first place in his division at USQ's Modern Language Teachers' Association of Queensland Speech Contest.
On Sunday August 28th, Cameron Powers in Year 9 competed in the prestigious Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland Speech Contest at the University of the Sunshine Coast. There were hundreds of students from schools all over the region competing across a number of languages, including Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Spanish, and, Japanese. Students ranged in age from Year 4 through to senior school students.
Cameron had to memorise his speech in Japanese and deliver it to a panel of native Japanese judges – a very daunting task! He was then required to answer some unseen questions. Cameron delivered his speech and answered all questions flawlessly. After a long and nerve-wracking wait while the judges deliberated on the many contestants, we were thrilled when Cameron was awarded first place for his division! Congratulations to Cameron for his outstanding effort and for representing Southern Cross in this esteemed contest.
