Year 11 student Scott Ditton challenged himself further by programming a drone using a Wii remote and Bluetooth. Using a version of programming software Scratch, Scott connected the drone to a Bluetooth board, correlating the usual computer keyboard controls to that of a Wii remote. A group of Year 7 students took their interest in radio to the next level by recording a podcast for broadcast. Kurtis, Morgan, Braydon, Ashton and Macklan have been pre-recording their podcast each week for all to hear. Topics of discussion have included the State of Origin, school and anything that’s of interest at the time.
London based online radio hosting service Shoutca.st has kindly donated server space to our aspiring broadcasters. In due course their podcasts will be available to listen to online during Semester 2. Web links will be advertised in due course.
For the students who have been a part of the STEM activities on a Wednesday afternoon, they said it has enabled them to do something they like and can learn from. “Why would we want to do something we don’t enjoy?” said Joseph.
