In recognition of the role Science plays in the development of technology and the job opportunities it provides, we have strategised the learning and teaching of Science into inquiry based, problem solving and complex reasoning. To achieve this, there are three seamless phases, namely, the scientific way of being, scientific literacy and inquiry. In recognition of the multiple intelligences of the students and to accommodate the interest of all students, we offer Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Marine Science and Aquatic Practices.
To engage the students in their chosen areas of study, we adopt different teaching strategies that align with the learning styles of the students. Our experienced and qualified teachers use technology and other resources across the curriculum as tools to assist students in their learning of scientific concepts in context.
This is accomplished by reinforcing whatever is learnt in class by excursions, field trips and by a series of experiments that expose students to the use of contemporary technology. Our approach provides opportunities for students who wish to proceed to further studies in tertiary institutions or those who want to work. To build the confidence of our students, we also expose them to national and international competitions including the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), Big Science competition, Royal Australian Chemical Institute Chemistry Titration and Quiz competitions and the Spaghetti Bridge competition.
Depending on expressions of interest, University Chemistry, a first year unit for which students can accrue credit, is proposed for 2016.
