Southern Cross Catholic College is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all students. Southern Cross Catholic College respects and values the dignity, self-esteem and integrity of every child and young person, based on our Christian belief that every person is made in the image of God and children and young people are entrusted to us by the love of God.
Southern Cross Catholic College is a learning community which aspires to growth in knowledge, love and service in the presence of God. In light of the Gospel and the educational values of its Founders, our College is a Christian community of lifelong learners committed to nurturing the gifts and potential of its members. We seek to serve the wider community, promote dignity and justice for all people and be active stewards of the environment.
Southern Cross Catholic College’s Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy has been developed in compliance with our obligations under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulation 2011 to promote and protect children and young people. Southern Cross Catholic College is a systemic Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Brisbane which is administered by Brisbane Catholic Education (“BCE”).
Reporting of Concerns
At SCCC any concerns or reasonable suspicions we have about a student’s safety and wellbeing or the behaviour of a staff member or volunteer which a student considers to be inappropriate, will be managed in accordance with Brisbane Catholic Education Student Protection Processes. All our staff undertake training on their reporting responsibilities. Brisbane Catholic Education has published a Complaints Procedure for Non-Compliance with BCE Student Protection Processes. Parents or students may make a complaint via the Record of Complaint about Non-compliance with Brisbane Catholic Education Student Protection Processes which can be accessed on Brisbane Catholic Education’s public website www.bne.catholic.edu.au Under the ‘Students and Parents’ tab select ‘Student Protection’ from the drop down menu.
We take all complaints very seriously and will handle them in accordance with the Complaints Procedure for Non-Compliance with BCE Student Protection Processes. Should you require information or assistance regarding the procedures you may contact the school or the Brisbane Catholic Education Student Protection Team on 3033 7409.
Concerns or further information
Parents and students should talk to the Student Protection Contact (College Guidance Counsellors), the class teacher or the Principal if there are any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of any student or concerns about the behaviour of a staff member or volunteer. We take all reports seriously and will handle them in accordance with our Student Protection Processes. Please contact the Principal or the College Guidance Counsellors if you have any questions or concerns about any matter or require further information about student protection.
